I was always brand loyal with my hair products… untill, I ‘went natural’. When I chemically straightened my hair, I used the same products for well over a decade. It worked every time. Now, my natural hair experience is totally different. The first time I went natural I was still living in Trinidad and I rocked a TWA (Teeny Weeny Afro) for nearly a year. Back then I was single and employed. I could afford the fortnightly re-shaping of my TWA. Once I arrived in England, Cambridge to be exact,I resumed chemically straightening my hair. I couldn’t find a barber and rarely came to London prior to relocating there. But I digress… SO now, second time around, I’ve been natural for 4 years and I’ve still not committed to any one brand. In the UK we don’t get the wide range of natural hair products as our cousin across the pond in the USA. I’m lead to believe got something to do with EU regulations regarding the ingredients in the products. Correct me if I’m wrong. I tend to mix and match products from various brands because to date I can’t find all I need in one brand in the shops. They are either out of stock not not stocked at all. Recently, I’ve been spending some time on Instagram -my latest addiction- and I came across the brand Camille Rose! Naturalistas in the USA have been posting their fabulous pics with gorgeous looking hair as a result of using brand. Fortunately for me, this time I was not to be disappointed. One of my favourite online stores Beauty by Zara stocked the brand. I opted to try only two products due to cost and to avoid disappoint if I was not pleased the outcome. I bought and tried Camille Rose Naturals’ Cowash Cleansing Conditioner and Curl Love Moisture Milk and I was very pleased with the results.
On my last washday I included Camille Rose Naturals’ Cowash Cleansing Conditioner and Curl Love Moisture Milk within my regime. It is recommended that you use all that you need from the range for best results. However, the products used them with worked well together. I really liked the fragrance of the Camille Rose products. Its a pleasant sort of caramel nutty buttery fragrance, if you can conjure that in your senses. The Cowash Cleansing Conditioner contains coconut and rosemary oil, while the Moisture Milk contains rice milk and macadamia oil. Both products were rich and creamy but not overly so. I have to say, the cowash provided more lather than I expected. Then again, I’ve never used a product that’s made solely for cowashing. I was skeptical but my hair did feel soft and not squeaky. I followed up with my usual conditioner. When the moisture milk was applied my hair was silky soft and smooth not weighed down or tacky to the touch.
For ease and speed, as I’m a mum to two under four years old children, I usually wear my hair in twist-outs or a pony tail updo. After wash day, I styled my hair in a twist-out and I went outdoors with my daughter. She and I went for a nature stroll of sorts. My hair was being whipped every which way. It smelt fabulous, the curls maintained form and moisture. In the night, I put my hair up in a pineapple and secured it with a stocking cap (not cute, I know). On day two I was indoors. I applied some Camille Rose moisture milk to my hair then I styled my hair two ways to show-off my curl results.
I know its only been three days but I know my hair will be fine until the end of the week. All it’ll need is spritz here and there, if I’m going outdoors to refresh and hydrate my curls. I’m a happy customer! I love my bouncy, soft, well defined curls. For more information on the brand and its range, visit their website. If you are a UK based naturalista, I know that Beauty by Zara stocks the brand.
